Instructor Workshops

People who volunteer experience the deep satisfaction of helping people in managing their health through programs that have been proven to be successful, safe, and stimulating. We are looking for volunteer leaders in as many communities throughout Northeast Missouri as possible. There are four programs which a grant from the Center for Disease Control has funded The Missouri Arthritis and Osteoporosis Program with its network of Regional Arthritis Center Program Coordinators. All are designed to help individuals improve their health and well-being through learning and practicing self-management skills. Leaders are provided with the training and tools needed to help others. Participants can trust the information and methods because of the evidence supporting all four options:
  1. Chronic Disease Self Management Course
  2. Arthritis Foundation Arthritis and Fibromyalgia Self-Help Course
  3. Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program
  4. Enhanced Fitness (Available Soon)
Program Leaders:
  • Receive specialized training and easy-to-use instructional materials for each program

  • Learn new skills and gain valuable experience with teaching and program delivery

  • Receive the opportunity to obtain the Arthritis Foundation's nationally recognized certification and contact hours for possible continuing education credits

  • Are invited to quarterly leader support/arthritis program partner sessions

  • Have fun!!!
Very brief descriptions of each program follows. If training dates do not fit your schedule, please contact the Regional Arthritis Center Coordinator. We make every effort to help potential leaders become equipped and successful in helping people in their home communities through offering these courses.

Live Like Your Life Depends On It

This training will equip participants with the proper tools and techniques to teach Live Like Your Life Depends On It program. The program you will teach is a six week course meeting once a week for two hours. This is a four day training session and participants MUST ATTEND ALL FOUR DAYS. For more information click here. Cost: FREE to leaders who commit to teaching a class within 6 months of training and submitting participant data.

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program

The movements in this program were selected and developed by physical therapists to address the pain, fatigue and decreased strength that often accompanies arthritis, fibromyalgia, or other rheumatological disorders. Most classes choose to include a balance of gentle stretching movements that are suitable for every fitness level, plus strengthening and endurance activities appropriate to participants enrolled. People enrolled in these community based exercise programs have lots of fun and report

  • Decreased pain
  • Increased flexibility and range of motion
  • Better, more relaxed sleep
  • Increased energy
  • Improved balance
  • Improved outlook
  • Improved overall health status
If training dates do not fit your schedule, please contact the Regional Arthritis Center Coordinator. We make every effort to help potential leaders find workable training dates and locations to become equipped and successful in helping people in their home communities through offering these courses. Cost: FREE to leaders who commit to teaching a class within 6 months of training and submitting participant data. For more information click here.
