Become a Leader in
4 Easy Steps

    Mail or Fax Application to Northwest Regional Arthritis Center

  • STEP 4:
    Attend the Workshop After Application Approval


    Qualifications/Abilities

    1. Formal training in an exercise or health care field leading to a baccalaureate or associate degree or diploma in an exercise or health-related field such as:

    • Registered physical or occupational therapist or therapist assistant
    • Dance/movement therapist or educator
    • Recreation therapist
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Registered or Licensed Nurse
    • Exercise physiology
    • Exercise Science
    • Physical education
    • Athletic trainer

    2. A person's background in the following will be considered when the individual does not meet the educational criteria described in number 1 above:
    • Course work in anatomy, exercise physiology, kinesiology; and
    • Course work/experience in education and teaching skills;
      in communication and group skills; and
    • Experience working with the elderly, disabled or other special populations.

    3. Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

    4. Affiliation with a facility or agency that can provide ongoing exercise classes and insurance coverage for the program.

    5. Other qualifications or desirable abilities are:

    • Empathy, gained through personal or professional experience,
      with people who have arthritis
    • Interest in working with groups and skill in group process
    • Strong belief in the value of regular exercise
