Southeast Regional Arthritis Center

About

The Southeast Missouri Regional Arthritis Center (SEMORAC) is one of seven such regional arthritis centers established in Missouri by the Board of Health.

The center is designed to offer arthritis education programs to the community members, allied health professionals and physicians. The Regional Arthritis Center is located in a new state of the art Health and Wellness Center on the Saint Francis Medical Center Campus in Cape Girardeau.

The SEMORAC serves an 18 county area including: Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Dunklin, Iron, Madison, Mississippi,New Madrid, Oregon, Pemiscot, Perry, Reynolds, Ripley, Scott, Shannon, Stoddard and Wayne.

The mission of the Missouri Arthritis and Osteoporosis Program and the Regional Arthritis Centers is to reduce the burden of rheumatic disease by promoting optimal health and quality of life for all Missourians affected by arthritis, rheumatic disease and related musculoskeletal conditions through prevention, early intervention, education, service and collaboration.

Services Available

  • Free educational information about the various rheumatic diseases and related conditions and ways to live well with arthritis.
  • Speaker’s Bureau – Featuring professionals who will speak on many arthritis related matters for clubs, community organizations or religious gatherings.
  • Community education – Featuring educational programs and health fairs conducted by physician or other professionals who work with individuals who have rheumatic disease.
  • Activity programs – Featuring water and land based exercise programs.
  • Self-management programs – Featuring self-management strategies for people who have arthritis or fibromyalgia.
  • Joint protection products – Featuring information and products to promote independence for the person with arthritis. Some self help items may be available.
  • Referrals – For early diagnosis, treatment, rehab rheumatic disease and community resources.
  • Support Groups – Featuring educational programs and information on arthritis and fibromyalgia.
  • Juvenile Arthritis – Providing resources for children and their families for the diagnosis, treatment and support for JRA.
  • Library Resources – Featuring information in all public libraries in the 18 county area for resources on arthritis ready for checkout. The SEMO RAC office also has books and videos available.
  • Arthritis Aquatics Scholarship program – Assistance provided for those who meet criteria for Arthritis Aquatic therapy.
