Regional Arthritis Centers
The seven Regional Arthritis Centers (RACs) are part of a statewide network run by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Service’s Arthritis and Osteoporosis Program (MAOP). As the only entities of their kind, the RACs serve as a model for the other states in the nation to provide arthritis care to their populations.
The mission of the RACs is to reduce the burden of rheumatic disease by promoting optimal health and quality of life for all Missourians affected by arthritis, rheumatic diseases and related musculoskeletal conditions through prevention, early intervention, education, service and collaboration.
This is done by providing information and support for persons and families affected by arthritis, including the organization of community support groups, arthritis self-help courses and land and aquatic exercise classes. In addition, the RACs organize continuing education courses for physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals and offer public forums and general presentations on state-of-the-art care for rheumatic diseases.
