Northwest Regional Arthritis Center
Temporarily Relocates
Columbia, Mo. (Nov. 3, 2004) - The Northwest Regional Arthritis Center in St. Joseph, Mo. will relocate its offices this week. Beginning Nov. 5, the NWRAC's address will be at 5301 Faraon, Suite 130 in St. Joseph. This will be its temporary site for approximately eight months.
"The temporary move will be for eight months, and the NWRAC plans to relocate to Heartland Health East in June/July 2005," says Missouri Arthritis and Osteoporosis Program Manager Beth Richards.
The NWRAC is one of seven Regional Arthritis Centers (RACs), which are part of a statewide network run by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Service's Arthritis and Osteoporosis Program (MAOP). As the only entities of their kind, the RACs serve as a model for the other states in the nation to provide arthritis care to their populations.
The mission of the RACs is to reduce the burden of rheumatic disease by promoting optimal health and quality of life for all Missourians affected by arthritis, rheumatic diseases and related musculoskeletal conditions through prevention, early intervention, education, service and collaboration.
This is accomplished by providing information and support for persons and families affected by arthritis, including the organization of community support groups, arthritis self-help courses and land and aquatic exercise classes. In addition, the RACs organize continuing education courses for physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals and offer public forums and general presentations on state-of-the-art care for rheumatic diseases.
The NWRAC serves the counties of Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Caldwell, Clinton, Daviess, Dekalb, Gentry, Harrison, Holt, Nodaway and Worth in Missouri.
The Missouri Arthritis Research Rehabilitation and Training Center (MARRTC) was established in 1971 at the University of Missouri-Columbia Arthritis Center. MARRTC is funded by the U.S. Department of Education's National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research under grant number H133B031120 and is the only federally funded arthritis rehabilitation research and training center in the country.
As part of the MU Health Communication Research Center (HCRC), MARRTC's mission is to become a national leader in the areas of disability management and communication, improve the quality of life and promote independent living among people who have arthritis and arthritic conditions. MARRTC's core message is "Disability is everyone's issue."
