Mid-Missourians Learn Healthier Living
Trying to find a healthy balance between family, work and other responsibilities is often difficult, but add a chronic disease and life could really become complicated! The University of Missouri-Columbia Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Central Missouri Regional Arthritis Center will offer a six-week group workshop beginning on Thursday, September 20 to help people find that healthy balance.
The free Healthier Living workshop will teach people how to increase fitness, improve function, decrease fatigue, manage medications, and improve communication with your healthcare team. Whether you or someone you know has a chronic disease, learning these skills can help lessen the everyday frustrations and make life better.
Previous participants have said, "The group support/interaction as well as sharing problems and solutions was helpful in realizing that you are not alone."
"I would encourage all patients with chronic diseases to attend the workshop," says Sara Walker, M.D., professor, MU School of Medicine, University of Missouri - Columbia, and Missouri Arthritis Rehabilitation Research and Training Center co-investigator."Learn how to effectively use your energy and cope with the challenges of everyday living."
The Healthier Living: Managing Ongoing Health Conditions workshop will take place in Hallsville at the Hallsville Community Center located at 324 Route OO. The two-hour Thursday evening workshop begins at 6:00 p.m. and will last for six weeks.
The Missouri Arthritis and Osteoporosis Program sponsor this educational program developed and licensed by researchers at Stanford University. Whether you have heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, or another chronic condition, this workshop can help you gain self-confidence in managing your disease.
The Missouri Arthritis Research Rehabilitation and Training Center (MARRTC) was established in 1971 at the University of Missouri-Columbia Arthritis Center. MARRTC is funded by the U.S. Department of Education's National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (H133B031120) and is the only federally funded arthritis rehabilitation research and training center in the country.
As part of the MU Health Communication Research Center (HCRC), MARRTC's mission is to become a national leader in the areas of disability management and communication, improve the quality of life and promote independent living among people who have arthritis and arthritic conditions. MARRTC's core message is "Disability is everyone's issue."
