St. Louis Arthritis Walk
Columbia, Mo. (April 23, 2007) - On Friday, May 16th, the Arthritis Foundation will host the St. Louis Arthritis Walk in Forest Park to raise money for arthritis research and education. Participants can choose to walk in either a 5K or one mile route.
"People participate in the Arthritis Walk to honor themselves or a loved one living with arthritis pain," says Stephanie Stangl, public relations coordinator for the Eastern Missouri Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. "Sometimes a family member or friend walks because a loved one isn't able to anymore because of their arthritis."
The Arthritis Walk registration begins at 5:00 p.m. and the walk at 6:15 p.m. There will be music, entertainment, food and other activities - so bring the entire family!
"Walking offers a whole host of benefits to people living with arthritis and is key in preventing disease," says Stangl. "We are trying to spread the word that everyone should be walking at least 30 minutes a day or 10 minutes three times a day for better joint health."
Arthritis affects more than 1.3 million people in Missouri, including 5,700 children. People with arthritis will wear a blue "hero" hat during the walk. Since one in three Americans have arthritis, imagine all the blue!
