Farmers and Arthritis Project Makes Cover of Missouri Ruralist

Columbia, Mo. (Feb. 7, 2001) - Missouri farmers with arthritis did not have to look far for help in January.

"Help for Arthritis," an article about the Farmers and Arthritis Project of the Missouri Arthritis Rehabilitation Research and Training Center, made the cover of the January issue of the Missouri Ruralist.

The Missouri Ruralist is a monthly publication with a circulation of 30,000 to farmers who are actively engaged in production.

Authored by Steve Fairchild, editor of the magazine, the article outlines the difficulties farmers with arthritis face, the services offered by the Farmers and Arthritis Project and potential solutions.

The article notes that the Farmers and Arthritis Project offers free on-the-farm assessments by physical therapists and occupational therapists to analyze the situation and offer suggestions.

The Farmers and Arthritis Project is a cooperative venture between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and MARRTC. The project is devoted to helping farmers with arthritis stay on the job.

One of the challenges the project faces is getting the word out to the people who need their services - farmers.

But this cover article solved that problem by getting the message to many of the people who need to hear it - Missouri ruralists.

The magazine is one of 36 titles produced by Farm Progress Publication headquartered in Carol Stream, Ill.
